1. Why would we want to receive payments electronically?
Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payments save money, are more convenient, reduce paper handling, streamline lockbox services, and reduce the risk of lost payments. Providers can save $2.94 or more per claim settled electronically.

2. What is PaySpan Health?
PaySpan Health is designed for healthcare organizations, payers and providers alike, who seek to bring the promise of HIPAA administrative simplification to reality. Specifically, PaySpan Health automates the last leg of the healthcare claims adjudication process – payment and remittance. To accomplish this mission, PaySpan Health optimizes funds transfer and remittance posting by leveraging HIPAA-standard 835 payment and remittance protocols.

3. Why would we want to use the PaySpan Health service?
PaySpan Health makes the transition to electronic payment and remittance quick, easy and cost effective. No service fees are required for your participation, yet you can save $2.94 or more per claim settled electronically. Also, PaySpan Health is a multi-payer solution, offering providers the potential to receive EFTs and ERAs from many payers through a single service.

4. How does PaySpan Health work?
A payer will notify you that they are using the PaySpan Health service to pay you electronically. In fact, you may be reading this now because one or more of your payers have already informed you of this opportunity. Besides communicating the advantages of this program, you may have received a registration code. This code is all you need to get started. Simply go to www.PaySpanHealth.com and spend 5 to 10 minutes to enroll. Once registered, you will automatically be alerted to EFT payments and to the availability of associated ERAs. If you have not yet received a registration code, please visit the Provider Resources page for qualification and enrollment information.

5. We receive EFT payments from some of our Payers today. What is different with PaySpan Health?
In the past, the lack of remittance information to clearly associate EFT payments to the appropriate remittance hindered adoption. PaySpan Health eliminates this typical problem by delivering complete remittance details to you with each EFT payment. By taking advantage of HIPAA 835 ERAs, you can easily reconcile payments without having to re-key information, reducing errors and simplifying the receivables management process. Also, PaySpan Health is a multi-payer solution, offering providers the potential to receive EFTs and ERAs from many payers through a single service.

6. What if we would like to receive EFT payment, but don’t have EDI capability?
Providers are not required to have EDI handling capability. A great feature of the PaySpan Health offering is the ability to receive and view the ERA online. All that is required is an Internet connection. After receiving email notification of payment, providers can log into the PaySpan Health provider application to view remittance details. Additionally, the remittance can be printed locally or downloaded in a HIPAA 835 format.

7. What does PaySpan Health do about remittance details?
Remittance advices can be delivered in a HIPAA 835 ERA format, or delivered as printed advices, depending on your preference.

8. Will we need to switch banks to take advantage of PaySpan Health?
No. PaySpan Health is bank independent and non-proprietary. You can keep your existing bank relationship and still receive electronic payments and remittance advices through PaySpan Health.

9. Is PaySpan Health HIPAA compliant?
Yes. PaySpan Health is compliant with the HIPAA 835 payment and remittance standard.

10. How do we enroll with the PaySpan Health service?
A payer will notify you that they are using the PaySpan Health service to pay you electronically. In fact, you may be reading this now because one or more of your payers have already informed you of this opportunity. Besides communicating the advantages of this program, you may have received a registration code. This code is all you need to get started. Simply go to www.PaySpanHealth.com and spend 5 to 10 minutes to enroll. Once registered, you will automatically be alerted to EFT payments and to the availability of associated ERAs. 11. What does the PaySpan Health service cost?
There is no cost for you to enroll in the PaySpan Health service and there are no costs to receive EFT payments and ERAs through this service.

12. Will we need to modify anything in our Practice Management or Health Information System?
No. No development work or alterations will need to be made to your practice management or health information system. When you enroll in the PaySpan Health service and elect the electronic payment and remittance, you will be able to receive HIPAA 835 ERAs that can be imported directly into practice management or health information systems.

13. Will transactions be retained online so we can see them later?
Yes. All transactions are retained online. PaySpan Health provides unique search and retrieval capabilities against historical data retained online, thus assisting with dispute resolution, payment verification and reprints. No matter if the payment and remittance originated in paper or electronic format, all claim and remittance data is retained and searchable online.
